Geomagnetic storm reaching G2 Moderate levels in progress

The solar wind environment at the ACE spacecraft displayed two weak transient signatures near 01:00 and 09:00 UTC on April 9, 2015, suggesting the arrival of the April 6 Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) from Region 2320 and a weak coronal hole high speed stream (CH HSS).

Wind speed increased from near 340 km/s to near 425 km/s by 00:30 on April 10. IMF total field values increased to a peak of 14 nT while Bz reached a maximum southward component of -10 nT. The Phi angle oscillated between positive and negative solar sectors, SWPC said.

Geomagnetic K-index of 5 (G1 -Minor geomagnetic storm) threshold was reached at 01:43 UTC today.

Area of impact primarily poleward of 60 degrees Geomagnetic Latitude. Weak power grid fluctuations can occur under G1 conditions as well as minor impact on satellite operations.

Aurora may be visible at high latitudes, i.e., northern tier of the U.S. such as northern Michigan and Maine.

Space Weather Message Code: ALTK05
Serial Number: 779
Issue Time: 2015 Apr 10 0143 UTC

ALERT: Geomagnetic K-index of 5
Threshold Reached: 2015 Apr 10 0143 UTC
Synoptic Period: 0000-0300 UTC

Active Warning: Yes
NOAA Scale: G1 - Minor

Potential Impacts: Area of impact primarily poleward of 60 degrees Geomagnetic Latitude.
Induced Currents - Weak power grid fluctuations can occur.
Spacecraft - Minor impact on satellite operations possible.
Aurora - Aurora may be visible at high latitudes, i.e., northern tier of the U.S. such as northern Michigan and Maine.

Geomagnetic K-index of 6 (G2 – Moderate) threshold was reached at 05:44 UTC today.

Area of impact primarily poleward of 55 degrees Geomagnetic Latitude. Power grid fluctuations can occur. High-latitude power systems may experience voltage alarms.

Satellite orientation irregularities may occur; increased drag on low Earth-orbit satellites is possible.

HF (high frequency) radio propagation can fade at higher latitudes.

Aurora may be seen as low as New York to Wisconsin to Washington state.

Nominal conditions are expected to return on April 11 and persist through April 12 as effects from above mentioned CME and CH HSS wane.

  1. Watcher, take a look at the Tornado at Fairdale, IL on April 9, 2015. It looked so beautiful (so concentrated) that the destruction is so severe. What do you call it? Beautiful destruction and destructive beauty. In the end, it is violence’s violence, a killer’s killer.

Do not let the human death and number of tornados fool you. This concentration outbreak lasts long and covers wide. The weathermen will say, it is not ranked near the top. I say, what is your point of reference? Mine is time =space, not spacial time as spilled by Rabbi Einstein. Also, notice the relative quietness in EQs and volcanos.

But the Sun had been relatively quiet leading to the outbreak. He threw them a curveball when they stare at the Sun. Singularity blinds them.

Johann Strauss’ “The Blue Danube” is recommended when watching the tornado.

People say, why do you enjoy our misery? I say, why do you cover the entire IL with synthetic fertilizers? Where is your logic?
