A relatively large explosive eruption is currently in progress at Kamchatkan Shiveluch volcano. Following an eruption that started at 22:47 UTC yesterday, an ash plume rose to estimated 4.5 – 5 km (14 760-16 400 ft) altitude and drifted west.

The volcano continued to produce intense degassing and minor ash venting. Glow from the active lava dome was visible on night-time webcam images. (VD)

Eruption is continuing.
