Russian volcano Plosky Tolbachik in Kamchatka peninsula continues to erupt with strong seismicity as of January 28, 2013. Lava flow is ongoing through southern fissure on Tolbachinsky Dol. Also, satellite images suggest big thermal anomaly i northern portion of Tolbachinsky Dol. Aviation code by KVERT remains orange as volcano is exhibiting heightened unrest with increased likelihood of eruption.

Located at the southern end of the Kliuchevskaya volcano group, Tolbachik is a massive basaltic volcano. Two overlapping, but morphologically dissimilar volcanoes form the Tolbachik massif. The flat-topped Plosky Tolbachik shield volcano with its nested Holocene Hawaiian-type calderas up to 3 km in diameter is located east of the older and higher sharp-topped Ostry Tolbachik stratovolcano.

The summit caldera at Plosky Tolbachik was formed with major lava effusion about 6500 years ago. Simultaneously, a major southward-directed sector collapse of Ostry Tolbachik volcano took place. Lengthy rift zones extending NE and SSW of the volcano have erupted voluminous basaltic lava flows during the Holocene, with activity during the past two thousand years being confined to the narrow axial zone of the rifts.

  1. thanks to plosky tolbachic, our weather in the uk has been, for winter, mild.Howcome, well heat and pressure has been building up under the earths crust for some years in our northen climes. This is the cause of global warming.Heat has escaped via the mid atlantic ridge warming the sea in turn melting the base of the ice sheet. With little or no support, hundreds of tons of icesheet falls into the sea. This heat/pressure has been negated bythe tolbachic eruption and should help stabilising in the near future our wild weather. In 2010 the Icelandic volcanoe accomplished the same feat, turning our rain soaked land into a drought area.If the scientist were to be correct, greenhoouse gasses warming the atmosphere would melt the icesheet from above, water would be flowing down the glaciers and flowing into the sea like a waterfall. The clues are there for all to see, open your eyes and minds scientists, you are costing our country dearly.
