Have you ever wondered, what’s orbiting over your head right now? A new satellite-tracking tool called WhatSat can answer that question for you. It’s an app for Android phones that tells you what’s overhead, helps you find satellites in the night sky, and “tags” satellites you’ve seen. Many satellite-tracking tools are available, but none is quite like this; view the demo video to learn what makes WhatSat unique.

The WhatSat Satellite Explorer app is the latest from the the folks that produced the popular Satellite Flybys  app and is being released just in time for Spring evenings and Summer camping trips.  It’s a great tool  for spotting and identifying satellites.  It tells you what satellites are over your location (as determined by GPS) and if they are visible or not.

Features
A catalog of 150 or so of the brightest orbiting objects
Descriptions and images of the satellites that are in your field of view
Tagging feature to let you keep track of the satellites you’ve seen
Map view shows satellite ground tracks on a map
Catalog view shows the complete catalog with your tagged satellites in red and a total count of the satellites you’ve tagged.

WhatSat can be used to learn about what you are seeing in the night sky, or it can be used to tell you where to look for satellites. It’s a great way to learn about satellites and space junk that you see passing overhead.
